hills1
Rating: ★★★☆☆
Call me crazy but I really liked this one. Especially after seeing the second part, when I remembered how good it was in comparison. The story is simple: A post-army desert where nuclear tests were conducted, family of mutated hillbillies (canibals of course) and a happy family on a trip, travelling through there. Of course they get stopped, killed one by one for some time, and then try to regroup and pick up a fight.

So here’s another Val Kilmer movie, this time something that’s supposed to be a horror. Instead it’s a lot of bullshit about global warming (which is fake by the way) and some bugs that will destroy the human race. Scary. The worst problem is, that this movie looks like it was well planned at the first glance, and then after a while it starts to become obvious how terrible the whole thing is. First of all – the acting – terrible. Almost as if they shot the whole thing with first takes only. So well, the story is simple enough. A daughter of a derranged ecologist/scientist comes to grenland with a bunch of students, theoretically to reunite with the father. Practically we see that the whole expedition that her father has lead is infected by some million year old parasite bug, and everyone is dying. And vomiting brown goo. Too bad that this is pretty much it. Not many twists, no scary moments at all. If you like medical stuff or you cherish your own parasites it might be worth a watch. In any other case (i.e. you’re relatively normal) I’d skip it. Once again you can thank me for watching this for you.
Oh, and some of the “big speaches” about humanity made me laugh out loud. Pathetic… Well… Still better than Twilight ;)

Movie : Creep

creep
Rating: ★★★½☆
Say what you want, but I really liked this one. The London Subway is definitely a good place for a horror setting. Add some mad scientist and decades old experiments on children and we have a creep on our hands.
Franka Potente as the protagonist, get’s locked in the Subway at night cause she got drunk and fell asleep. Normally of course that wouldn’t happen because they do check if ANYONE is anywhere underground before closing. + They have thousands of CCTV cameras all around. But after we skip the obvious holes in the plot it’s really enjoyable. And the bad guy is pretty interesting as well – very agile and strong, which makes him tougher to kill. The suspense is definitely there, altough there are some hints to what will happen next from time to time, that spoil the fun a little bit. But still this is a great take of the underrated subway-horror genre.
The music is also pretty decent, and the band doing the score should definitely be checked out!

Rating: ★★★½☆
That in fact is a not bad attempt at a genre that’s rarely ever exploited – the music industry and it’s little horrors. The short part of the story : A musician is fed up by his boring office job and decides to rent a studio for a weekend (overnight of course) to have one last take on making a hit. He grabs his ex to do the vocals, and locks himself in the studio. And since the lock is automatic (it opens in the morning) no one can get out. Delightful right? Especially when an internal studio phone starts ringing from some old storage room, and they find some secret places in the studio building. Spooookyyyy ;)

Movie : Freddy vs Jason (2003)

Rating: ★★★☆☆
Well what can I say? Two instant classics in one movie. We’re sure there’s gonna be a lot of blood, and a lot of dark humor. And if we think of this movie as a little comedy-take on the horror genre, especially with the two classic horror characters – it’s not bad. As a horror it kinda fails to be scary to anyone over 10. The dialogues take away A LOT of the suspense, but bring in some humor. Robert Englund is still awesome as Freddy after so many years, and Jason … well he’s not really a talker anyway.

Wow! That’s all I could say about this one. It’s hard to call it a horror in the full meaning of the word, since there’s no supernatural and no real evil involved. It’s more of a very hardcore thriller, but at that it really surpases in every way the version from years ago. Usually remakes are an easy way for a studio to re-use an original idea and get more money. In that case the original idea is way worse when compared to this. Ladies and gentelmen , we have a winner!

Movie : The Hatchet

hatchet
Rating: ★☆☆☆☆
For what they advertise as “oldschool american horror” this is a totally failed attempt. If by oldschool you mean it looks like it was made in the 70′s then yes. It’s cheesy, badly written, terrible acting and no suspense at all.
One of the final scenes looked like it was taken out from a Scooby Doo movie, which would probably still be a better horror anyway.
Not much good can be said about this one. The one star rating is maybe a 1 star too high, but the absolute zero stars is reserved for such “horrors” as the “Twilight” series and “Harry potter” ;)
Stay away from the hatchet, even though it’s not really sharp…

zombieland
Rating: ★★★★☆
Finally! A really, really entertaining zombie comedy. With Bill Murray. Yay! This one starts off amazingly well – with a well executed list of rules one should know to survive in a world full of hungry hungry … well zombies. So if you want to survive better lay off the Dew and Chips and exercise, or you’ll be the fatty who dies first. Ok, I know you wouldn’t give it up anyway, so let’s get back to the movie shall we ? Fine.
So what you need to know about this movie is …

saw6
Rating: ★★★★☆
Finally! After turning almost into a tv series and lots of disgusting boredom a SAW that cuts through. Agent Hoffman is still the bad guy and he’s quite convincing at that. But at the same time after at least 3 saws we finally have a refreshment. That rusty old saw had been given a polish and a lot more sense.

Rating: ★★½☆☆
We can’t have everything now, can we? Either it’s the good acting (like in this movie) and terrible storyline with more plotholes than the zombies, or the other way around. Yes, the acting is pretty decent, especially when compared to the sad, sad rest.
