Finally after “Event Horizon” and many pathetic attempts at a sci-fi horror, a good movie came along. Pandorum has the right amount of thrills and chills for a horror movie, and not a bad sci-fi story line at that. Basically: The earth is overcrowded and getting food is extremely hard. So somewhere around 2200 people decide to send a ship to what they found could be a good planet to inhabit.
Two men wake up from their hyper-sleep with a total loss of memory and are slowly putting the pieces together.
The scary parts reminded me a bit of resident evil combined with event horizon. But there’s even a better comparison. Doom3 the video game. The atmosphere, the monsters jumping out from the dark, the technology. After a pretty bad doom movie this is a refreshing attempt at that space-horror genre.
The acting is surprisingly good for a horror movie and the visual side doesn’t seem to be lacking anything. It’s a well put together piece that engages the viewer attention till the very ending. The music sounds a bit cheap at times, like a soft-synth loop collection, but it doesn’t interfere so that’s a plus.
Generally this movie is worth the watch and I definitely recommend it to anyone used to Imps jumping out from the dark corners and pumping some lead into them with the trusty shotgun. Yes, ladies and gents, doom3 fans would love it!
